polling tcp port availability

Question

Hi,

I'm stuck trying to find where Orion monitors known services on a device, e.g. http, ssh, telnet... doesn't seem to be any mention of what is such a base level thing to be able to do. am i missing something? is there a good reason it's not there if it indeed isn't? the "application monitor" module just seems to be a toy to check running processes on windows machines.

If you have immediate needs for advanced application monitoring, you might also check out ipMonitor.

ok thanks, if we become a customer i'll be heading that way fairly quickly. seems like a very odd thing to hav enot had since day one... maybe i just don't have enough experience of this sort of monitoring.

Hi Chris,

The current AM module is focused on process monitoring (up/down, CPU, memory utilization, number of copies running, etc.).  However, we are working on a new application performance monitoring module for Orion leveraging technology from the ipMonitor acquisition.  In addition to process monitoring, this new module will provide the ability to do custom TCP port monitoring (status and response time) and we'll also provide several standard Monitors by default (e.g. HTTP) which is what I think you're requesting.
