What does the CLI Device Template do for me when monitoring with NPM only? I do not have NCM.
Does it allow NPM to poll hardware type information such as serial numbers?
Anyone please?
I was under the impression the CLI templates are part of NCM only. Whereabouts do you see this in NPM?
But to answer your question, I would say it does nothing. NPM gets its data via SNMP.
in the more recent releases they added in the network insight for asa/nexus/palo alto, they also moved the device templates from NCM to core orion at the same time since now there seem to be some cases in plain NPM where the tools would be ssh'ing into devices.
Yeah, I was aware that they moved Device Templates to the Platform, but that still does not make sense, because all the credentials for SSH connection are still entered on the node Edit Properties page anyway. The Device Template is redundant. Oh well.
When you are polling Nexus devices with FEX's that have several hundred ports, you need to monitor some things with the CLI because SNMP will timeout on that many interfaces.
Also you need CLI to monitor VPC's
I understand that, but I think you are missing my point. I'm saying that the CLI login information is already asked for on the node's Edit Properties page. Why does it also need to be repeated on a Manage Device Templates page?
OIC, in that case, if you have NCM, why do I have to enter the credentials for NCM and for CLI device polling
