Server Reboots

Question

I am curious if it is possible to setup a alert to kick out alerts when a server reboots and display the time at which it rebooted via snmp.

I can lower the polling frequency to about 30 seconds to catch the reboots, but would like to leave the polling frequency at ~5 mins since we are monitoring quite a bit of nodes.

I have tried to create a custom property that would look at the current uptime of the device and if it was < 5 mins it would kick out a alert stating a recent reboot.

The main issue to overcome is reboots between polling times, with polling times set at anything greater than 1 min it is very possible to miss a reboot - I wish to handle this without setting the polling frequency to 30 seconds to all my nodes across the board.

I went through that a long time ago.  It's a piss-poor fix, but open the Configure Basic Alerts window - uncheck the box for that alert (disable it), and then recheck it (enable it) and close the window.

How do you get it to remove the alert once it's been triggered?  I'm trying to figure this out and have been unable to find the answer.

I agree with bbosley - use the Last Boot property.  I monitor this on many devices to watch for reboots.  For the most part I just have an email sent when a device reboots.  If it's a critical device I send a text message to my phone.
