9.5.1 snmp traps not showing up in events page

I verified snmp traps received using snmp viewer, but those traps did not show up in the event log on the web page. I might mis-understand events, but I expected all traps to show up in the events page.

can anyone clarify, or has seen this issue?

Events seem to be a combination of items from internal Orion pre-defined events as well as anything you sepcify to create an event in the Advanced Alerts Manager. The Orion pre-defined ones you can't change but you can choose which Advanced Alerts you send to the Event viewer.

SNMP Traps as well as Logs you have set to trigger alerts will never show up in the Alerts view. The alerts view is for stateful events which SNMP Traps and Logs are not; basically something that is tripped and then rearmed. Basically, anything that shows up in the Alerts view is configured in the Advanced Alerts Manager.

ok, so perhaps PICNIC is in effect. apparently there is a menu item for TRAPS. not sure if not enabled by default or I just removed it way back when. That displays all of my SNMP traps, including color actions, etc...
So my next questions are:
- what defines an event and is it configurable...
- why are my traps that have actions not showing up as alerts in alert tab?

not sure my ops can handle monitoring another page (snmp)
