Chagne Alert Description on SCOM Monitor

Question

i would like to add the IP address of the Node to the Orion Node>entity Health>Availability>Node State monitor. I know there is no override for this feature but is there any upcoming releases that include the IP address in the alert description? Has anyone successfully modified the management pack to include something else in the alert description?

I have however managed to modify, reseal and reimport the management pack..

What you need to do is export the management pack  / convert it to xml.. (theres a powershell script to convert them)

Make the changes, increment the version and  re-seal the management pack using MPSeal.exe you then need to alter the unsealed management pack and make it reference the newly sealed ones, this is unsealed as the install generates it to reference your server during install.

Im unsure how you stand on editing the management pack objects licensing wise though?

We don't have multiple devices with the same name but we do see not having the IP address in the alert message as a problem. The IP address is in an interface alert message but the node name is not and the node name is in a node status alert but the IP address is not.

I was able to unseal the SolarWinds Orion Library management pack and see what needed to be change to allow the IP address for the node status alert and the node name for the interface alert. I have not been able to successfully import the modified management pack (I could import the modified management pack but not the Netflow management pack being it had to be removed to delete the original SolarWinds Orion Library management). We would like node name, and IP address on all alerts as well as interface name with interface alerts. We do not want to have to look at another document to get missing information especially when there is a problem. Our network devices are not in DNS so we can't get the IP address by just pinging them.

I don't know when the next release of the Orion Management Pack will be since version 1.0.1 was just released.

It may be possible to create an aggregate monitor or dependency monitor that will generate an alert when the node state monitor goes into the Critical state.  I don't know enough about those types of monitors to describe how to do that or whether it would even work.

Is the current alert description a problem because you have multiple nodes with the same name?
