Alert for temperature above 35 degrees C alerting when temperature is below 10

Hi,

We have setup an email alert so that when the temperature value from an APC temperature probe goes above 35 Degrees C it will email us, this has been working correctly but now the temperatures are very low we are finding that when the value goes into single digits the alert goes off as if it thinks 9 is greater than 10.

Please does anyone know why this would happen? or is there a way through transform to maybe put a 0 on the beginning, so that it would understand 09 is lower than 10.

On the alert trigger condition you have set, is there any adverse effect if you remove the decimal? Perhaps there's some issue that it only likes dealing with whole numbers (even though 35.0 is a whole number, it may not like the decimal being present)?

Just spitballing ideas because the condition you described in the OP is an odd one. Never seen/heard of that before.

Unfortunately removing the decimal point did not fix the problem, sorry it took so long but the temperature does not fall below 10 very often.

Hi Darren,

You could try setting the warning and critical thresholds for the poller and evaluating against this in your alert.

It also looks as though the custom pollers have "Current Values", and "Current Numeric Values" which can be used for alerts

I had no idea you could set thresholds like this. I'd been looking for a way to handle my thresholds better and this is it!

As tony.johnson referenced above, I would recommend using the 'Current Numeric Value' as opposed to the 'Current Value' field when creating UnDP alerts that involve numbers. I have a sneaky suspicion that when you just go with the 'Current Value', that Solarwinds is just doing a text string comparison in which case 9 would be greater than 35 based on the first character of the string.
