SQL Server Hardware Recommendation

Question

We're upgrading SQL Server and moving it to new hardware.  I need server specs that will get me good performance for SQL Server 2008 Enterprise with one Orion poller (1000 nodes and 5000 interfaces).

"Is there any reason not to put the OS and logs on the same disk?" - You can do that also and may have to if you can only fit 6 drives in your server.  I would just recommend having the logs and the DB on seprate drives.  I've always been told by the SW guys to do RAID 1 for the OS and RAID 10 for the DB.  I think that setup would be run well with no netflow but also well enough to add netflow later on.

What I'm looking for is suggested hardware specs, with good performance and room for expansion, that I can give to the server guys. I understand that there are a lot of variables but if you were buying a server for my setup what would the hardware be in terms of number, size and speed of disks and CPUs, how much RAM, etc.

The DB is only about 9GB running on a single disk.  We're running Orion, no NetFlow although that gets discussed periodically along with the possibility of additional pollers, not more than a total of three.

Wouldn't RAID 5 be faster? Maybe this isn't a primary consideration with one poller? I'm not a server guy so I'm I
