Accessing Nodes Using SSH Icon

Hi!

I can't seem to figure out how to be able to run the SSH icon for remote device access.

I'm using Putty. I'm using the CustomURL application that is to apply the putty to to the registry.

Can someone has a simple procedure on how to make it run??? because "Registering Application to a URL Protocol" on the Admin Guide seems too complicated.

If you are using Internet Explorer 6 (who does anymore), it works great. However, Microsoft rewrote most of Internet Explorer when they released IE7 and 8, and it broke this functionality. The only way to get the SSH or Telnet icons to work now is by using the application registration procedure.

I haven't tested Firefox, Chrome or Safari, so I can't speak to them working or not.

Incidentally, I use SecureCRT, and built several profiles for accessing equipment.

If the procedure provided in the article "Registering an Application to a URL Protocol"--as linked from the section "Accessing Nodes Using HTTP, SSH, and Telnet" in the SolarWinds Orion NPM Administrator Guide--does not work, please post your experience here, so we can update our documentation accordingly.

This procedure does not work for IE7 and Putty 0.61. The error when clicking the SSH button within NPM is

Unable to open connection to
ssh
Host does not exist

I use a batch file for mine, but you have to trim part of the address of.

@echo off
if %1. == . goto blank

set address=%1
set Use_User=%username%

rem set address aliases
if /i %address:~0,4% == ssh: set address=%address:~6,-1%
if /i %address:~0,7% == telnet: set address=%address:~9%

start putty %Use_User%@%address%

goto exit
:exit

it is probably launching putty and trying to connect to ssh://x.x.x.x which isn't a valid IP

If you enter ssh://<ip address in the URL field of your browser, does that launch your desired SSH client?

In my Firefox settings, Options --> Applications, the "Content Type" field has SSH and my terminal emulator (TeraTerm) is the listed application. When I enter ssh://<ip address> in my browser, it calls TeraTerm and I get a challenge from the expected server. Everything works as expected.

ssh://(ip address) brings up an Error 404 when used with Internet Explorer 8 and 9 (Firefox is not permitted on our company network). There appears to be no way to add the SSH protocol to the allowed applications. I found a registry edit for it, but that doesn't appear to work either for PuTTY 0.62 (the latest version.)

Telnet works, but not ssh and Putty.

Does anyone know what the final solution is for Using SSH, RDP, and Telnet from the Node Details Screen? I am using NPM 10.3.1 and IE versions greater than v8, and do not know if using customurl or tinyurl and the MSDN protocol registrations are working or not, actually want to wait to see what the solution is and if anythings changes when I upgrade to NPM v10.4.
