You need check port 1433 in firewall and inside in the sql configuration manager you need see are enable the instance protocol .

Make sure any Antivirus and HIPS products will allow the connection.

Make sure you have installed Orion with the UAC slider to the bottom.

Make sure you install Orion "As administrator".

Are both servers in the same subnet?

Are SQL services running on the SQL server?

I am sorry. I already open the port 1433 also 1434 in the inbound firewall. and I set also the sql database port 1433 under network configuration and it still does not work .

I did all you said above, and the servers are in the subnet. Now i try to reconfigure sql and I have this message back:

“The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication”

Note: both servers are in the same workgroup. i have no domain controller

If you go to Start > (command box) psr then run as Administrator. Once opened you need to changes setting to 100. This will capture screen shots on every click.

also, try going into SQL configuration tools -> configuration manager.

go through all on left column and ensure that TCP/IP is enabled.

Note: I already set the TCP/IP and it is enable and has as port 1433 configured neither in both firewall, I also set the enable aceptenance of remote connection.

I am sorry it is enable and the port 1433 has set perfectly. Seriously I can’t see what’s going wrong. And on the database server I was able to login with windows authenticating perfectly but through my solarwinds server.

see if, from your orion machine, you can telnet (may have to add to server - windows feature - telnet client)...

telnet <db server ip/name> 1433

did you install SQL with mixed mode authentication?

I always use mixed mode for Orion and use a SQL user to connect Orion to the DB instance. you probably want to do this anyway, because if issues w/ domain controller, issues with talking to sql.

try switching and let us know progress.
