ghost ports after node replacement

Most of our edge switches are Cisco 2960 models...maybe 800 or so of them. Because of Solarwinds licensing, I monitor only the uplink ports. This is, on an old 100mb switch, often Fa0/24 or Fa0/48. After replacing these with a new GB switch, the 100mb ports no longer exist. Yes, I know I can stop monitoring the 100mb port before I replace the switch, but that doesn't do anything for the (about 100) switches that have already been replaced. The problem is NCM reports a problem with the new switch because it cannot see Fa0/24 or such...and I can't tell NCM to stop monitoring it because the port doesn't exist anymore. Rediscover doesn't do anything for me.

I don't want to delete and recreate all these switches, especially since most of them are in Atlas maps. Is there some way I can get rid of the ghost ports?

Click the little arrow next to the node. Then select the greyed interface and select delete.

Go to the manage nodes screen and you can find the ones you need to delete from there.

As mentioned you need to delete the interface that no longer exists and add in the new one that you'd like to monitor.

Correct, and as mentioned, I don't see a way to delete the nonexistent interface... hence my question.

Did you try mesverrum's suggestion?

If yes and you still don't see the interface you wish to delete, then I think you should delete the node and re-add it. But normally what has been suggested above is all you need to do. You should see the old interface but it will have a grey status circle.

Post a screenshot of the error you are seeing.

Sorry guys,I was relying on email notifications to these answers and I didn't get all of them. I am attaching two screen clips, one shows the ghost ports error (unknown state, icon includes a grey dot) and the other demonstrates that I cannot deselect the ghost ports because they no longer exist.

You keep trying to remove them from list resources, you won't be able to get them there you have to delete them from the manage nodes screen

Yeah, I know I could delete the node and recreate it, but I don't want to do that X 100, as I also need to add them to groups and then do the same in Atlas...which is more painful.

Hi reved.bonnell hopefully these screenshots will help - For the purpose of demonstration, I had an old Port-Channel which I was monitoring in SolarWinds, but it has been deleted by another engineer and as such is showing as Unknown.

1) This screenshot shows my lab switch and the description shows that there is a Port-Channel13 which is now in an unknown state

2) So from that Manage Nodes screen, if you click on the small arrow (Indicated as Step1) it will expand out and show all the individual interfaces already being monitored, This is different to the List Resources as that is a scan of what ports are detected to be monitored and you select new interfaces from there. You can then see my interface labelled Port-Channel13 is showing as Unknown as it no longer exists on the switch.

3) Then as per the next screenshot I simply select the interface/port to be deleted and click on Delete in the top right hand corner.

This can be a little tedious for a large number of interfaces, but you can also use the filters to help if you have a common interface description. To do that you can change the "Show" filter to Interfaces rather than Nodes, and filter by Interface description as per the below screenshot.

You guys are AWESOME! I didn't even notice the expansion triangle. I got this cleaned up in minutes!
