Custom property editor is very handy for NPM nodes. We want to import those custom properties to NCM nodes as well. How to do?
Starting in version 7.x, there is not a specific custom property editor for NCM. Nodes are managed via the core installation so all nodes are managed via the core database. Therefore, the Orion NPM custom property editor is what you would use.
See appendex G of the NCM admin guide that states:
All Orion product installations have access to the Custom Property Editor, which allows you to add a custom property to any monitored device. Custom properties are additional fields, such as country, building, asset tag, or serial number, that you can define and store in your Orion database. After properties are added, they are available for display and filtering both within the Orion Web Console and within the Report Writer application.
Looks like I need to move to 7.x very soon!
But I see another problem, the management IP address for some of our devices are different for NPM and NCM (the reason being NPM uses an additional poller located on-site whereas NCM uses the remote IP address). Does this setup permit this double IP address somehow or I should create one node each for NPM & NCM.
No, this does not permit for double IP addresses. Each IP address is a distinct node so NPM and NCM will not see it as the same node if they have different IP addresses.
How about if a Custom Property exists in NCM but does not exist in NPM? How would you get rid of that Custom Property?
I recently added a custom property through Custom Property editor. But it doesn't show up in NCM GUI so I am unable to use that custom property in defining scheduled jobs. NCM Version 7.0.2
