Setting up NCM web site on SSL

I am trying to set up my NCM website with SSL since there is so much sensitive info on this site. I have working with an IIS person but we cannot get the SSL to work. I tried rerunning the config wizard but that didn't help. I have a certificate and 443 specified as the SSL port but I still get "Page cannot be displayed" when I try to go to the https page.

Has anyone set this up and got it working?

This process is what is documented for NPM. I believe this should work for NCM as well.

Thefollowing procedure does not detail the process of either obtaining a requiredcertificate or generating a certificate signing request for a third‑partycertificate authority. It is assumed that the required SSL certificate hasalready been installed on your Orion NCM server. For more information aboutacquiring and installing a required server certificate for SSL communications,see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298805, from which thisprocedure was adapted.

Toenforce SSL connections to the Orion NCM Console:

1. Log on as an administrator to your Orion NCMserver.

2. Click Start >Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.

3. Expand Servicesand Applications > Internet Information Services (IIS)Manager > Web Sites.

4. Click SolarWinds Orion Network Configuration Manager,and then click Action > Properties.

5. Click the Web Site tab.

6. Confirm that SSL port is set to 443, and then click Apply.

7. Click Advanced.

8. If the Multiple SSL identities for this Websitefield does not list the IP address for the Orion NCM Web Console with SSL port 443, complete thefollowing steps.

a. Click Add, and then select the IP address of the Orion NCM Web Console.

Note: As it was setinitially in the Configuration Wizard, this option is usually set to (All Unassigned). If the IP address of the Orion NCM Web Console wasnot initially set to (All Unassigned), select the actual, configured IP addressof the Orion NCM Web Console.

b. Type 443 as the TCP port, and then click OK.

9. Click the Directory Security tab.

10. Click Edit in the Securecommunications section.

11. Check Requiresecure channel (SSL), and then click OK.

12. Click Apply, and then click OK to exit.

I have tried all that and still it doesn't work. Any other ideas?

Are you referencing the machine by its fully qualified name when accessing the website via HTTPS? E.g. https://clapoint.aus.acme.com/

The server name you need to reference should be the same as the common name (CN) defined in the certificate. This can be an IP address, FQDN, etc...

CN = NCMTestSystem.someserver.com

In this case, if you attempt to reference it by IP or simple machine name it will not work. It needs to be the FQDN.

The CN may also look like this:

CN = NCMTestSystem

CN = xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

Simply take a look at the cert to determine the CN. Let us know how it goes.
