Is there a way to add a node straight from the web console of NCM?

What you outline makes perfect sense from a production-ready and implemented point of view.

For the engineer pre-deploying devices prior to being production ready I typically validate all of my appliances, servers, routers, and switches prior to making them production ready, one of those things is saving and storing configurations and inventory.

Only when they are cut-over to production are they added into orion, port monitoring enabled, alerts created, and operations is then available for monitoring.
Some pre-depoyment devices are in data center racks, configured, on-line, and ready to go.  But something is delaying the project (not IT) and Cirrus is doing it's thing, just like we want. Thank You.

This is similiar the the discussion I had regarding NPM and ESX monitoring.  Not all vm guests are production devices, yet the new version is now monitoring templates, development, pre-deployment servers and each has nothing to do with operational monitoring.  From my perspective NPM should be dealing only with production monitoring and alerting.  That is generally not all that the engineer has on the network.

This is why I believe the flow could be considered backwards, the engineer has the device working prior to deployment.

I vote for what you propose here Chris.  Add it to NPM and have a checkbox to ask if you want to add it to NCM.  If you check that then you need to enter the credentials, log in info, etc.

However for this to work there has to be multiple NCM server support, just like multiple orion pollers.  You need to be able to select the proper NCM server that node belongs to.

If/when we extend NPM node management to allow for managing NCM nodes, our thinking is that we would make the addition to NCM optional.  If the user selected to add node to NCM, the user woudl then be able to fill in the required NCM-specific information for that node.  Orion NPM would become your centralized web console for node management across both NPM and NCM.

Does this make sense?  Or would you still push for NCM > NPM?   If so, we'd definitely like to understand any use-cases we're missing.
