Configuration Contains Prompt

Hi,

I have a set of devices (Sarian 3G routers) which have no enable mode and no special characters to denote a prompt. The prompt is the hostname of the device. Unfortunately, this prompt is part of the configuration file so when downloading the config file, it gets to the hostname specification and then halts the downloading of the configuration believing that it has seen the prompt.

Is there any combination of VirtualPrompt, VirtualEnableMode, Delay, RegEx, etc that would allow me to ignore the hostname when it's in the configuration?

I guess what would be ideal is if I could turn off prompt recognition for a set period of time (say 10 seconds) whilst the configuration downloads and then turn it back on again.

Unfortunately, no. The NCM state machine requires a prompt to know when it's done downloading the config so it can properly archive it to the DB and file system.

Hello; I m also using Hr4410, ER4110, MR2110. Is there anyone who created a device templete file for Sarians. I tried to make it from 3com's file, but i couldn't. Please help. I have to download their config and send them commands.

Hi,

I did create the Sarian command file attached (you'll need to change the name from .txt to .ConfigMgmt-Commands). There a limits to what you can do. The biggest problem I found (as detailed above) was that if you change the prompt to something meaninful within the configuration, when it downloads the config, it gets to the line within the config where the prompt is specified and then stops because it thinks you are back at the prompt. It misses out capturing all of the username information.

A colleague did mention that there is a different way of showing the configuration using "type config.da0" at the command prompt. Not tried this yet, but I think it will probably suffer from the same thing.

I've spoken with Sarian and there is apparently no way to add a # or other symbol at the end of the prompt to indicate the command line.

I have had some success with devices where a prompt is not specified in the configuration. The default prompt is usually something like "s13392>" which is not contained within the configuration and therefore doesn't stop the configuration from downloading fully. The problem with this is that you don't get a meaningful prompt.

If Orion NCM supports FTP at some point in the fututre, then you should be able to FTP the configurations from the box. I have a couple of devices which are screaming out for FTP config downloads as they don't support TFTP and don't show the configurations via the Telnet terminal console.

I am having this same problem with Alcatel switches. The prompt appears exactly in the "show configuration snapshot". Is there any way to tweak the NCM state machine to look out for 2 or more prompts, before determining it is done with the downloading of the config?

Unfortunately no. I opened a ticket for that problem 2 years ago. It was closed quickly and was changed into a service request but without any further result/actions after 2 years.
