ERROR: Cannot download Running config

Doing a nightly backup job and getting this error message for one of my Cisco WLC reports this). ERROR: Cannot download Running config : Unable to compare configuration files, most likely caused by broken regular expressions. Inspect your logs for details.)

The running config is being saved but the error is annoying and management freaks out when they see a failed backup. Anyone have an idea of what would be causing this?

Finally getting back to this issue. Thank the gods that I haven't needed the backup. After continuing troubleshooting the above suggestions I found that on the WLC under commands that the upload file was checked to encryption. Can't explain why this fixed my issue since it was a config on upload and not download but I am able to backup the config now. Thanks for everyone's help.

do you have a login profile setup? if not then this may be the reason.

I do. My other controllers do not display this error message in the email notification. Also the backup is working but getting this message in the email.

have you done any firmware updates through NCM on stacked switches?

i personally have not but one of our other techs have.

Are you sure you have the correct NCM profile applied? It may properly "auto-detect," and usually does...but just in case, apply or create an NCM profile for the WLC and see if that fixes it.

If you are referring to the connection profile I get a successful when I test the connection. The backup actually works I am just getting this error in the email notification.

how is this setup on your wlc...most profiles are setup automatic detect

You could try this although it's weird it works fine on one of your WLC's.

Do you really need to compare configurations? If yes, you could delete all previous backups on this WLC and then start running your nightly backup again.
