Hi,
May i know if we are able to add services in Solarwinds for monitoring?
To add on, to create an alert if services are stopped
With just NPM then no, you can't.
You can monitor (and alert) on drive space, CPU - basically all the hardware bits except interfaces. You'd need the SAM module to monitor services.
Hi stuartd ,
Is it under the Product specific settings, then select SAM settings?
We don't use SAM so I don't know.
You'd be better asking the question here: Server & Application Monitor (SAM)
You will need SAM or the Server and Application Monitoring features in Hybrid Cloud Observability.
Thank you for this info
You need SAM. Then you can monitor services and create alerts which can also be used to restart a service if it is not running. I use it all the time. We have some flakey systems who's services are always stopping. Now I don't have to worry. Solarwinds just sees that they have stopped, restarts them and drops me an e-mail to say that it has done so.
SAM or Hybrid Cloud Observability This is bread and butter of server monitoring and is easy to monitor and easy to alert on once you have the monitoring set up.
SolarWinds offers a variety of products and services for IT infrastructure monitoring and management, including network monitoring, application performance monitoring, server monitoring, log management, and more. Depending on the specific SolarWinds product you are using, you may have the ability to monitor various services within your IT environment.
For example, SolarWinds Network Performance Monitor (NPM) allows you to monitor network devices, servers, virtual machines, and applications. You can add devices and services to monitor through the web-based interface or by using SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), WMI (Windows Management Instrumentation), or other monitoring protocols supported by SolarWinds products.
Similarly, SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM) enables you to monitor servers, applications, and services across your environment. You can add servers and applications to monitor, set up performance thresholds, and receive alerts for any issues detected.
In general, to add services for monitoring in SolarWinds products, you typically follow these steps:
Access the SolarWinds Console: Log in to the SolarWinds web console or desktop application.
Navigate to the Monitoring Section: Depending on the product you are using, navigate to the appropriate section for adding and managing monitored devices, applications, or services.
Add Devices or Applications: Use the interface to add devices (such as routers, switches, servers) or applications/services you want to monitor. This may involve providing IP addresses, DNS names, or other identifiers for the devices/services.
Configure Monitoring Settings: Customize monitoring settings as needed, such as specifying monitoring intervals, performance thresholds, and alerting criteria.
Review Monitoring Data: Once devices/services are added and monitoring is enabled, you can view real-time and historical monitoring data, including performance metrics, status, and alerts.
Fine-tune Monitoring: Adjust monitoring configurations and thresholds over time based on performance trends and changing requirements.
Keep in mind that the specific steps and features available may vary depending on the SolarWinds product you are using and the version of the software. It's recommended to consult the documentation or reach out to SolarWinds support for detailed guidance on adding and configuring services for monitoring in your specific environment. Shopkiry.com
