I am running SQL Express.
- Should I compact the daabse before I back it up.
- Would it be better to turn the database off before I back it up
- Is there any rule of tumb on how long each task should take.

How often should the DB be compacted? Our Netflow DB is going to be rather large so I'm sure it wil take a while to compact. I'm trying to get my compact and backup schedule going to any pointers would be great. Thanks.
