Remote Poller Setup
BryanBecker
Because of a recent merger and having to add a large number of new devices we are in need of changing our current Orion install. Today he have the poller and database on a single server. I want to see how people are using the remote pollers in a distributed environment and how that's working for you.
My plan was to get new smaller windows servers to become the remote pollers and place them in a few areas of the network. Take the exisiting server and make it the SQL server housing the Orion database.
What I'm not clear on is it possible to still have a single web site where all the nodes and information are tied in? I don't want seperate web servers that we have to access for each remote poller.
Thanks for you help.

Bryan,
In the distributed model, you would have a master orion server; poller and web server, database server and additional pollers spread through the environment.
The web server really just accesses the database.
Thanks,

Ok...I can't find any documentation on the SW site about this.

Check out the Fail-Over PDF

The remote pollers are shown. They don't have the Web Server, that is on the Primary Orion server. You don't need hot-standby for a remote poller to work, just using this as the source for the architecture.
Thanks,

Currently we have the main Orion box located on our central site with a seperate SQL box and 1 poller on a remote site, we envisage putting out at least a further 2 possibly 3 remote pollers to support sites that will be supporting in the next 6 months.
What we did learn from this was that the main Orion box if it's not got the database on does not have to be a very meaty box as all the remote pollers send directly to the SQL box.

Hi,
I want to install a remote poller.
Is the specs the same as the host machine ?.
Does the operating system has to be Windows 2000/2003 server or Windows XP ?
