A way to stop monitoring an element/node?
FormerMember
Is there a way to stop monitoring a specific element or node without deleting it from the database?
For instance, if I have a device that I need to remove from the network or a circuit on a router that will be down for a couple of months, it'll turn the icons on the status page red. I'd like to stop polling that node or stop reporting on that element. The only way I can find to do this is to delete the node or remove the element from monitoring, but if I do this, I lose all the historical data for that element.
Is there a way to just turn off monitoring for that node or element, perhaps change the status icon blue, but keep it in the database?

Why not
unmanage
the node?

I guess that's part of my problem. I don't see any way to "unmanage" a node.

In the Orion System Manager right click on the node you would like to unmanage and select "Node Details". Click the "UnManage on the right and enter a date/time you would like the node unmanaged until.

I don't know how I managed to not see that button so many times. That's exactly what I was looking for.
Is there a way to do that for a specific interface? Or how about a way to monitor the interface when it's up, but not necessarily report on up/down status?
Thanks a bunch on the "Unmanage" feature. My fault. ID10T error.

At present you can only unmanage a node. You can't unmanage interfaces, volumes, or applications. I've been hoping for something like this in the future but so far no luck. There is also no method of monitoring an interface that is down without turning the status indicator to red. This is frequently asked by people who wish to monitor access ports (end user switch ports). Given that SolarWinds is sold per-element, or in this case per-interface you would think it would be in their best interest to allow people to monitor access ports without being alerted to their up/down status.
