Unless I missed it, there is no admin setting to determine how long alerts are retained in the database. Are they deleted after they are acknowledged? Or does it matter whether they are acknowledged or not?

Alerts are only retained as long as they are active.
If you would like to have a list of all Triggered and Reset Alerts, you will need to create an Alert Action to log to the Orion Event Log for the Trigger and Reset and the Alerts Triggered and Reset Times and information will be retained in the Events Table for 60 Days by Default. You can change the Retention under Settings> Polling Settings, and there will be an entry for Events.
