Configuring Polling Engine

Question

Hello,

I have installed Orion NPM v9 in win 2003, and i want to install one Polling Engine in other server.

I have never install Polling Engine and I don't know how it works?

Please, can you tell me how can I configure it? and I use the database for Orion NPM or I create new database for Poller?

In Order to Install An Additional Polling engine, you will have to Purchase one first,

Download it From Your Customer Portal, Make sure you have same Version as Main orion poller.

Use Install Guide Below to install it,

then goto Start, All Programs, Solarwinds Orion, Advanced Features, Monitor Polling Engines

Once you have more than one polling engine, you will need to balance the load so that each engine can perform optimally.Monitor Polling Engines allows you to do this (See admin Guide for more info...)

Polling will be done on whichever polling a Nodes is assigned to,

BUT both Pollers will always use the same Orion DATABASE.

Additional Pollers allow you to increase the monitoring capacity of your Orion NPM installation by enabling multiple monitoring engines that work in parallel across your network. The following procedure configures an additional poller.Note: If you have created custom properties for monitoring your network, you must copy your custom property schema and configuration files from your original Orion NPM server to the additional poller. To install and configure an additional poller: 1. Install and configure an Orion NPM SLX server on your network. For more information, see “Installing SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor”.2. Log on to the Orion NPM server on which you want to install the additional poller. 3. If you downloaded the product from the SolarWinds website, navigate to your download location and launch the executable.4. If you received physical media, browse to the executable file, and then launch the executable.5. If you are prompted to perform an upgrade of Orion NPM, click Yes.6. Review the Welcome text, and then click Next.7. Accept the terms of the license agreement on the End User License Agreement window, and then click Next. 8. If you are prompted to choose an installation destination folder, provide an installation destination folder on the Choose Destination Location window.9. Click Install. 10. If a dialog appears requesting that you restart your server, click OK.11. Provide the appropriate information on the Install Software License Key window, and then click Continue.Note: You need your customer ID and password to install the key. If you are using more than one polling engine to collect network information, shut down each of these polling engines before continuing, and then, when you have shut down all other polling engines, click OK.18. If you are prompted to stop services, click Yes to stop the services.Note: It is imperative that you stop all services to ensure that all updates and changes are installed correctly.19. Select or type the SQL Server that is used by your Orion NPM server.20. If you want to use Windows Authentication, select Use Windows Authentication, and then click Next.21. If you want to use SQL Server Authentication, select Use SQL Server Authentication, provide your SQL Server Login andPassword, and then click Next.22. Select Use an existing database.23. Select or type the Existing Database that is used by your Orion NPM server, and then click Next.24. If a dialog appears that says that your specified database already exists, click Yes to use the existing database.25. If a dialog appears that says that multiple polling engines have been detected, click OK to continue database upgrade/verification.26. Select Use an existing account.27. Select or type the Existing Account that is used by your Orion NPM server.28. Provide the Password for the existing SQL account, and then click Next.29. Confirm that all required services are checked, and then click Next.30. Review the configuration summary, and then click Next.31.
