OK I've had Orion kind of dumped on me as the guy doing it just abandoned it. I've started to get the hand of doing more than just using it as a tool to watch my network, and actually administer it. That said I am a noob with deep end SNMP stuff. But I am working on it. I've already located my NitroSecurity ESM SysObjectIds and put them up for inclusion to the database.
I've tracked down a bunch of OIDs for specific devices I want to poll and stuff like that.
But I have a few problems I can't quite figure out yet.
1. My NitroSecurity ESM does poll correctly so there must be some of that info in the compiled Orion database. Maybe just not all. But how does it know what OIDs to use if it doesn't know the vendor? (random question that's bugging me)
2. If I make a custom poller which is an on/off value how do I show that as something other than a guage (which looks a bit silly.) Let's say something like fan status which is either on of off.. how do I show that as something other than a guage? I can't figure that out.
3. And this may just be from prior work on this machine. When I go to make a custom poller I have several already there. Are these likely legacy, or does Orion ship with a few premade to help you along? At first I expected to see all possible vendors from the compiled MIB but realized that was a bit optimistic. Are these just demo/legacy things I can get rid of or keep as I see fit?
That's it so far. When you answer... be gentle... it's my first time... hahahahaha
