Critical Files to backup - 2018

Question

I found a post dated that was many years old so thought the question should be revisited.

What are the critical file to backup to be able to reliable recover?

This is what we have but would be a good thing to cover everything related in one spot.

DPAIM 11.1.0

NPM 12.3

NTA 4.4.0

NCM 7.8

Unless you have legacy stuff in your environment, like old report writer documents, everything you need for Orion is in the database now.  NCM has a built in job that makes archive copies of old configs to a folder on your hard drive, so you might also back those up somewhere, but they don't show up in the web console at all.  You'd probably also want to make sure if you are using NCM firmware repository that those files are backed up, but once again those can come from anywhere on your network so I'd probably not have them on the Orion server itself unless you don't have room on a proper file server.

If you have a good SQL backup and your main app server died then you can spin up a brand new server, connect to the SQL DB and be fully up and running again immediately.

The config wizard blows away your inetpub folder by default now so you shouldn't put anything in there that you need, and for the most part custom .aspx resources have fallen out of favor these days since they are so temperamental to version upgrades and such.
