Device Template Auto Selection not working on SDWAN Aruba Devices

Hi All,

We have SDWAN aruba discovered with (API +ICMP) SNMP not supported whether the auto alignment of device template will work only for SNMP based devices ?

Because already the device have discovered the sysoid via api but still it is not working.

Hi @thangaselvi ,

Yes, that is expected behavior. NCM's Auto-Detect feature for device templates relies on live SNMP communication (querying the device's SysOID / System Description directly during the test/polling phase).

Even if the SysOID was populated in the database during API discovery, NCM won't be able to auto-determine the template over SSH/CLI if SNMP isn't actively enabled/polled on that node.

How to resolve it:

Instead of relying on auto-detection, manually assign your custom template to the node:

Go to Settings > Manage Nodes and edit your Aruba SD-WAN node.
Scroll down to NCM Properties.
Under Device Template, change it from Auto Determine to your custom template (Aruba Silver Peak).
Save the changes and test the connection profile again.

Once explicitly selected, NCM will bypass the SNMP auto-match and use your defined SSH commands to download and manage configs without any issues.

Looks like it. I am assuming you are using ICMP / API for SDWAN device monitoring, can you check on node page if device type/model/vendor is populated via this method ? In NCM it is picking the default as SolarWinds cannot determine the device type.

Lastly, is Configuration backup/Test working while you manually change the template in NCM section for this node ? This should work as expected.

Yes Vinay it supprts only API + ICMP and if i assign manually it works .. But concern for new devices every time some one need to add this

Hello @thangaselvi - yes makes sense, raise it as a feature request under SWOSH feature requests, this is something that SolarWinds will look into and pick up.
