Back from a few days off and catching up on what fired while you were away? This is something I’ve been experimenting with
Service Alert Replay is a dashboard I’ve been building directly inside SolarWinds Observability Self-Hosted.
It replays recorded alert activity for a configured service over the last 24 hours or 7 days, with either window playing back in 60 seconds.
The colours follow the replay clock through sunrise, daytime, sunset and night.
You can:
- Follow Trigger and Reset/Clear events along the timeline.
- Distinguish alerts already active before the window from new triggers.
- Filter alert activity by object type.
- Pause, step forwards or backwards, and move through the timeline.
- Select individual alerts to explore their details.
Selecting an alert shows its state at replay time, trigger time, observed Reset/Clear time and observed duration, alongside the associated entity and history coverage. Its matching timeline markers are highlighted too.
The replay uses current service membership and the available qualified alert history. Reset/Clear represents an alert lifecycle change and does not confirm service recovery.
Node, alert and entity names have been replaced with display aliases.
Still an experimental view, but quite a different way of catching up on a week of alert activity ✌️
A first look at Node Replay
I’ve also been playing with a Node Replay view, bringing CPU, memory, response time, interface traffic and recorded alert activity together.
I really like the idea of moving through the timeline and seeing how the measurements changed alongside the recorded alerts. This is still an early draft, but I thought I’d share a little preview
if you fancy some other ideas you can follow my wider work here on THWACK.
