How can I assign an organization name to an IP range in SolarWinds IPAM?

Hi everyone,

In SolarWinds NPM, I can edit the hostname associated with an individual IP address. For example, I can identify 23.62.212.73 as belonging to Akamai Technologies.

Instead of updating each IP address individually, I would like to assign an organization or owner name to an entire IP range.

Can I ask what would be the recommended way to configure this? Thank you.

Oh, not NPM then, you're wanting it to show up in NTA (Netflow Traffic Analyzer). If the groups are in different AS's, you can set it in Autonomous Systems settings. But, guessing you're probably really wanting to do "IP Address Groups". Both are under "Settings / NTA Settings". Fairly simple from there. Then you just have to have the right grouping, either by AS or IP Groups.

Hi, sorry to mention. I am using NPM. I mainly want the ip address to display a organization name on a netflow dashboard. Right now I am manually configuring the hostname of each IP.

Yes, custom properties. Depending on exactly what you're doing, you might be able to construct an alert to assign the property for you. Much better than having to go update them all yourself…

Hi, are you talking about doing this in NPM or IPAM?

I would, in both products, create custom properties where you specify what organization the IP belongs to. Custom properties can then be used in alerts, reports and dashboards etc. Custom properties can be updated on several entities at the same time, or through the API.
