I am getting alot of push to get rid of UDT and use NetDisco (of which they installed on a small system and it works very well)
Any good comparison points for my pitch to keep UDT?
Thank you @familyofcrowes , please let me know what SolarWinds says. I use UDT as well it does a decent job. I don't monitor everything on my network via UDT specific ports on switches but then I do know that data mismatch is present, but i believed it was because of the scanning interval of ports and short lived connections, I havent looked at it from this perspective though, it will be interesting to know if its a bug or something.
Thank you for your responses.
I should have started with the issues… We have UDT (SolarWinds Platform, NTA, UDT, SAM, NCM, IPAM, NPM: 2026.2.1) but noone will rely on it because its missing alot of data (simple MAC and/or the associated IP). As where NetDisco is working terrifically.
I would like to make UDT be as good as NetDisco, but its failing so far. Most switches only show a couple MACs and only a few show the VLAN or IP or DNS name….
We only have one polling engine with 7500 elements, but polling is at 100% and polling rate is 60% with a total job weight of 2110.
Most all of our devices are Cisco 9200 and 9300 switches (using VXLAN)
I have a ticket open with SW but just thought id throw this up here to see what yall have to say….
Hello @familyofcrowes What is it that you have on your end? Do you have a SolarWinds Observability Self Hosted environment or is it just a few modules along with UDT?
Looks like it all comes down to the cost probably (if it isnt for cost I dont see a reason as to why they want to jump onto NetDisco and if you are already on OSH then UDT comes as part of your existing license cost in such a case there isnt a need for a new tool), NetDisco does a decent job but only major differences would be that NetDisco is free/open source - what that means is you dont get vendor support. You might need a guy who knows a bit of Linux and lastly, reports or dashboards might not be as great as what SolarWinds can provide.
Start by figuring out why they picked NetDico. Get a list of items/features that they need.
Then compare it to what is available or can be built, in UDT.
I wanted to share a new dashboard a co-worker ( @mblackburn ) came up with to help us better view groups of interfaces and various metrics for each. Using a single HTML widget, we are able to visually compare numerous different interfaces by populating each interface dataset onto its own graph. We are able to view…

Alert Cleared.htmlHello, I would like to share the HTML template details we have prepared so that Solarwinds alarms can become more meaningful. It can list alarm object details and connected device details separately in HTML template. Except for object and device details, you can easily add custom property information…
