Can we do any automation to bulk update the SNMP credentials on SolarWinds

I have some 3000 devices , where the SNMP credentials are being changed.

I want to automate that(in batches), Can we automate this? something like it reads the data from a csv or something then goes into Solarwinds changes the credentials, then generate report at the end , which devices failed snmp, and run the backup on NCM?

Changing credentials is harder than adding a new one to the devices, migrating to it, then removing the old credential. That way nothing should ever fail…

I have created the new credential set on SolarWinds, already. So the automation has to pick up a list of devices, find them on SolarWinds. Update them with the new credentials set, test snmp, run NCM backup and generate a excel sheet with caption, IP, snmp test pass/fail, NCM backup(success/fail).

I put this on a resource on a page that I do Solarwinds checks from. It will tell you what nodes are not responding to SNMP for more than 2 hours. You can use it, or use bits of it to fit your need. NCM backups have pretty much nothing to do with SNMP, so a bit confused on that. NCM inventory uses SNMP though…

Try this to start with. It will replace the credentialID for nodes with a certain custom property value.

Find the new credentialID number you want your node to have and add the Custom property value to search for (or add your own filter).

This only updates SNMPv3 RO credentials. Can be that you have RW credentials. Then you might need to run the update part twice with separate settings.

I just tested it in my lab and it seems to be working. But do try it out yourself in lab before running in prod.

hi @surnaihai899 - if you are looking for a automation script ignore the below manual steps. Well I am assuming you are already aware of this but still.

This should be pretty simple from SolarWinds GUI as well.

If you already have a free custom property good, if you dont have it create one.
Since you already have the list of 3000 devices, just update the custom property value through bulk export.
Create you new SNMP creds in SolarWinds under SNMP V3 creds.
Go to Manage nodes - Filter on the custom property, the max page size is 250. Update your SNMP creds in bulk for 250 devices.
