Configuring Alerts

Question

I need to monitor a node, icmp only, to alert when it goes down. I have two pollers, where do I configure the alert? On the poller where it was discoverd (my secondary poller) or do I have to poll this object from my primary Orion station to have the alert work, i.e. move this node to my main poller.

Second question regarding alerts, where should I be configuring the alerts? From System manager or the "configure advanced alerts" feature? Does it matter?

I've always configured my alerts on the primary poller.  In fact, if you look All Programs, SolarWinds Orion on an additional poller server, you won't find the Advanced Alert Manager (at least not in v9.1, I don't remember how it worked in previous versions.)

The main difference between configuring alerts from System Manager versus the configure advanced alerts feature is you can only configure basic alerts from the System Manager.  I prefer to use advanced alerts, they provide more flexibility than the basic ones.
