Currently there isn't much for "real time" up to the minute monitoring for connections, sessions, and requests. I would like to see some enhancements to the active session page that contains a better view of the currently running processes.
Yeah. It's better if we can monitor with realtime.
I actually run the free Dell Spotlight Essentials on my servers in addition to DPA just so I can get some kind of real time view of what's going on. That adds a lot of overhead and just seems silly. It would be much better to add the functionality to DPA.
I used the dell spotlight too, but then switched to sql heartbeat. I definitely don't like all the overhead though of running something extra.
dlaney: I like the Health Check reports that I get from the Spotlight Essentials web site (somewhat similar to DPA's Advisors, but much more comprehensive and detailed: Missing Indexes, Security Policies [Guest user and password policies], Best Practices [use of Select *, Optimization Hints, and Set Rowcount], Recovery Model, Backups, Ad Hoc Workload, Configuration [Compatibility Level], etc.). Does SQL Heartbeart offer something similar, or were you not using that feature?
