NYDC01 / NYCSQL01 / NYDB01 / NYAPP01 / NYEXC01 --- geographical based?
All of our servers are located at HQ in the Midwest and most of them are named after the application they are running.
Orion. So $Orion(prod/dev/uat)(function)(00-99). If you have 100 Orion servers you have a problem.
I comply to my companies naming standards and have in every place I've worked.
