I like Orion maps, but unlike others I think it has a long way to go before it beats Network Atlas maps.
The amount of information on an Orion map with links is fantastic, but it quickly becomes overwhelming.
I would like to see an option where only the link is shown (as a thin line) which changes colour depending on status, the full information is only visible when the mouse if hovered over or the link clicked.
We currently like to use large maps which give us a very good overview of the network (see attached) This would be absolutely impossible in Orion maps.
To get around this limitation we obviously can break the view down into smaller manageable segments, but a core box has to exist in every map. This results in a single link failure propagating its status to the core box which then shows up in multiple maps, making the issue look much worse than it really is.
If a core box was to have say 50 interfaces and a map is created which shows ten of these interfaces then the status of that map should not change if anything happens to the remaining 40 interfaces.
Eg. In the Overview map posted, near the centre are two red links representing a fibre link failure between two sites. In the OverviewMap2 we have a number of submaps represented. Only two of these should really show a problem, the other two only show a problem because the core devices (that have a single link down) are also on these maps.
