Alert Monitoring Best Practice?

Hi All,

I am wondering which  is better for setting up alerts, should i use the basic or the advance alert section. I am also trying to see which would be best for monitoring throughput from our site to site connections as well as our T1 pri links. I noticed some options under advance but the looked kind of tricky. All help is needed here....

We tend to heavily favor the advanced alerting engine due to the ability to filter based on custom properties. When advanced alerts are created and tied to custom properties, all the associations are made via the custom properties, and you don't have to go back and add devices to the various alerts. This can save a significant amount of time, especially if you have a complex, multi-tier alerting strategy. Be aware that if you are running anything prior to v8.1 of Orion, there are some known significant issues with the advanced alerting engine, all of which (from what I've heard) have been resolved in v8.1. We are planning to upgrade to 8.1 soon. It's pretty intuitive once you get into configuring them, but let me know if you still need help with this.~ Vic
