Add Serial number to the default Node details

I have added UDP in the past to add the SN to the page, but this is such an important piece that it really should be part of the default information that is polled for and discovered. It would make it easier to put custom reports together without having to use a custom poller field.

Amen, amen, AMEN! The only other place to find the serial numbers is in the Hardware Info table and items only get in there if they are monitored via SNMP or an agent. All of my ICMP stuff doesn't get the serial numbers stored anywhere.

It would be nice if SolarWinds would help us with maintaining asset inventory. We had to start using NetBox to get the asset inventory functionality. I compare the two to make sure the names match, but there are lots of places where the serial numbers simply aren't in SolarWinds.

You would think that since a serial number is so unique to a device that they would already have included it as part of the node details.

Please add this.

Wouldn't it also be useful for an area to display support contract ID's for any node, and allow it to become a direct link to a new window that opens the node's support page.

If You are polling the Hardware Details on eg. Cisco nodes, You have the Service Tag field in the Nodes Details - thats what You want, right?

I poll the Hardware Details on a thousand Cisco nodes, but don't see a Service Tag option displayed. What am I missing?

I suspected that if one had a Service Tag field, it wouldn't be populated automatically--it would be something one would have to manually populate. Am I mistaken?

Just like alert that update CP that could be update /change of hardware /new hardware plug in ...

If Orion was to automagically update Netbox, it would defeat the purpose of a Source of Truth.

SOT means that it is authoritative, so Orion would need to update from Netbox, not the other way around. At best, Orion could validate data, but not update it.

That said, it's a great use case for Orion SDK and the Netbox API. I'm currently interfacing both systems thru PowerShell scripts.

This FR also needs to ensure it includes stacked devices that "look like" a single IP/node and larger tech such as 6500's or Nexus or APICs that have multiple embedded serials for master cards, etc

Yeah... That's an issue I have with my current workaround. Because there's a few places where serial numbers are in the SWI data space, I have an alert that fills a node CP if empty, based on UnDP or asset inventory, or NCM. Since the CP is assigned to the node and not the members, it does fill only the Master device serial number. I could concatenate the multiple serial numbers, but it wouldn't tell me which one is which... :
