Alert to Enable a Switch Interface

Question

I'm not sure if this is possible but I'll ask anyway.

I want to have an Alert disable one interface on a swtich and enable another interface on the same switch when a certain node goes down.  I can do this manually from the NPM but it would be great if I could have it done automatically and not require manual intervention.

That's fantastic.  I'm reading some readme's on the NET-SNMP right now.  I think this will be perfect for what I am doing.  I will do some playing around and post how things work out.

Yes you can script NET-SNMP any way you want to achieve exactly what you are looking to do. If I had some spare time I'd write them for you but I'm sure with enough online reading you'll figure it out. Here is an example.

IP address of the remote device = 192.168.1.16
SNMP Write Community = private

snmpset -v 2c -c private 192.168.1.16 .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0 s "administrator"
(this command sets the sysContact on the remote device)

snmpget -v 2c -c private 192.168.1.16 .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.4.0 (query what you set)
