I suppose it all boils down to personal preference and what the specifics of the job are...Personally, if I were to be customizing an environment as the job, i'd probably enjoy it...i.e. scripting, SQL stuff, custom pollers, etc...
If it were a "babysitting job", not so much, i.e. simply admin'ing the envirnment day to day like adding, removing nodes, updating maps, adding/removing interfaces and monitoring it....
Again, I think it all boils down to personal preference and job responsibilities though.
