When a field stops updating and SolarWinds data become stale is there a possibility to get an alert when that occurs and is there a future fix in the works from preventing this from occurring? Or where can I put this in a future feature?
Fields shouldn't stop updating, so I would focus here. Have you opened a support case on this issue and behavior?

What fields are you referring to specifically? Without knowing more its hard to recommend a path towards resolution.
What steps have been taken if any thus far by yourself / support?
You could suggest if this may be of use and/or be an issue... but I find that clearing the information service subscriptions along with cleaning out windows temp files and a clean service restart (which I outlined in grave detail in the linked post below) to resolve numerous polling problems on the engines.

We have a large system and lots of data being updated. For example there are no specific field areas. It could be random but when it occurs I would like to put notifications in place to test for it next time. Yes the majority of the time all fields are updating but then there will be a occurrence of stale data. I put last DB sync in most of the resources created that helps because the time tag is old that is an indication. That's my best explaination. Thanks

Are you using the "No polling engine update in last 10 minutes" alert? If you go into Manage Alerts under Settings, there's a canned alert definition for this that you could enable. Another canned one which is good is "Node polling failed on last 5 tries". Contrary to what it says -- it typically means a problem with the polling engines services working appropriately.
Also another thing that may help, is a good admin dashboard by @the_ben_keen. My admin dashboard is exactly this with our own customizations built-in for our environment.

I have multiple environment. 2 polling engines in each of the 2 major environments, one in a third environment. I got bigger machines in all but one environment the 3rd but we have unlimited licensing on NPM and SAM and the SAM scripts growing quickly. With the larger machines we no longer have issues with polling completion. 300 second on most everything except for about 100 -200 critical items that we need to know immediately if there are problems.
