Orion v8 Release Info

As many of you know, we've been hard at work on Orion v8 and we're getting close to a release. We'd like to make sure that our forum members are always one step ahead, so here's some information.

As of now, our scheduled release date for Orion v8 is December 15th, 2006. We are planning to begin external beta testing in mid-November. Here is a list of the key features that are included in this release:

Custom MIB Support - ability for the user to specify custom OIDs for Orion to collect data from. We are going to include several custom schema files as well as give you the ability to specify the OID by typing it in directly or browing to the MIB within the SolarWinds MIB database.

SNMPv3 Support - enhance, secure, encrypted version of SNMP

Node Tree Grouping within System Manager - group by vendor, type, etc...

Advanced Alert Engine - ability to define dependencies, alert escalations, sustained state alerts, and etc...

SNMP Trap Receiver - ability to receive, log, and take actions on SNMP Traps.

This is by no means a complete list, but these are the big ones.

Additionally, we're going to follow-up quickly with another new release that will add an additional set of new features. We are currently working to nail down this list of features and set a release date for this new version.

I have installed on my test server and the one thing I do not like is that I have to Uninstall the previous version. If you have any other software with Orion you will have to install over again. Meaning the Wireless Application Monitoring. Also found out that the administator pack does not work with version 8 yet? Wanted everyone to know if you are installing...

I had the same problem, emailed support and they updated my account with the v8 software and it was then available in updates and downloads section.

Same answer there, although we will test and fix the modules first. Once the modules are done, we will test the "additional components" against 8.0, make any fixes necessary for compatibility, and re-post them.

Is there any way you can just include Report Scheduler in the Report Writer product? I mean, this is one of the most useful features of Orion, no matter what the developers think, and it's listed as a "limited support" product.

Has anyone been able to make "Get" statments work? I've got "Get Next" statements working on my custom pollers that's been working fine all along(I'm on the release version now) but "Get" statements only seem to work when I hit the test button that returns successfull and give me the proper value but nothing goes in my database. And I wanted to know if anyone else actually has them working so I can try to figure out if it's something about my configuration in how I setup the test machine or not. Can't seem to get though to anyone at support as I assume we're all trying to call right now.

I was rather... shocked.. to find that I can't add application monitors to my maps. It also appears that if I want to monitor app status or get reports on app counters that my only option is to write a custom SQL report. Can that be true???
