Hi,
Migrating to a new machine, does attaching existing database to a new server will permit to see existing nodes in the interface? or we must absolutely use polling engine to transfer those node?
Thanks
Thus, that means that we must use polling engine to assigne nodes to the new polling engine (new server) right?
yes, see page 3 of this doc. Reassigning Nodes
www.solarwinds.com/.../OrionServerMigration.pdf
What if my production server crash? We cannot use the current db to restore Orion server?
Of course, the server is in db but as you said, nodes are assigned to the old server, what's happen in that case?
My suggestion would be to restore using the most recent Backup-
Yes, I know, but in a case where the production server is crashed and cannot be back online, you mean that we will have to recreate all nodes manually on the new server as we cannot use polling engine, the production server is dead!
What is your recommandation in case where Orion production server cannot be back online (hardware failure). We can still install a new Orion server on a new box but how can we retrieve nodes from production server?
don't think its possible- you would just need to do a discovery on the new box-Have you considered adding a hot-standy solution if the primary Orion polller fails?
Can you explain more about hot-standy solution.
Thansk

Another question:
Our current Orion server will be reinstalled completely, OS etc. If we reinstalled this machine with the same name and once Orion is installed, connect it to the same db, nodes will appear in the interface?
When you run the Config. wizard, point to the existing DB and your nodes should be there. You may need to re-assign the Engine ID of those nodes as per the suggested documentation earlier in this thread.
