Good post! I have the same concern. It doesn't look good.
As is typical with a new release, there have been a few bumps. In the next day or two, we will be releasing a hotfix that addresses the majority of these issues. .
Excellent! It really surprised me that Passthrough authentication and special characters in passwords got past all the beta testing. Just goes to show you that there's usually a big difference in how lab environments are set up as opposed to production environments.
Although we're having problems with passthrough authentication, it's not always a problem. Many of these issues boil down to permissions. For many customers who have having difficulties, the problem is that their is a permission shortfall around ASP.net when they upgrade. Their permissions were sufficient for ASP, but there's something missing for ASP.net. These issues are really tough to troubleshoot because there are so many places for the troubles to hide.
The password thing surprises me, too, though. With all the beta and internal testing, we should have turned that one up.
Sorry it's taking so long. The hotfix was causing some collateral damage, so we've been tracking that down. We're now in the very last stages of testing. So soon.
This is a long thread... we're a tuff crowd sometimes!
Let's all remember "back" a year or two ago when we would all complain about the LACK of new revisions for Orion...
We had already been waiting for a new release for a year + so why rush to release a product and then have major releases within 2 months.
I don't understand. Was anyone here forced to upgrade? If you upgraded thinking that the product was rushed, then why did you upgrade?

Live without the new features if you think they're not worth the trouble of having. Not every bug possible for every environment possible is going to be caught during beta testing. I enjoy the fact that SW has upgraded the Orion suite with many new features, listened to their customer requests, involved customers during beta testing, released hotfixes in a timely manner, all while responding to support queue tickets and remaining active members in this forum. I'd personally rather live close to the bleeding edge than have a stagnant product that is useless to me because it doesn't have any features I need. Maybe that's just me. :-)

Waiting for the bugs to get worked out is always the smart move. Unfortunately with regard to upgrades we have had very few issues. There have been bugs but they are usually isolated and you work them out. This upgrade has the web interface down until further notice. Since i was the bright guy that went ahead and pulled the trigger im not smiling. (that much)
The truth is as someone else mentioned if your environment cant risk the down time the smart money is on waiting and perhaps consulting with Solarwinds to get a taste of the risk factor.
