Solved.
SolarWinds Alerting Engine wasnt started.
anyone?
I've got a similar problem in that if I try to test an alert it gives me an error message, I've got a call open with support who are looking into the problem.

As a workaround you can test advanced alerts by using the Advanced Alert Manager. This application is located in advanced features under Solarwinds Orion. Do no test from NPM.
did that. no difference. emails are still not being sent.
I also tried the Test Fire Alerts with no luck.
Is there anything else I can try?
so the alert itself is not working but testing it works in that it shows that it fails? or the Testing of the Alert does not "test"?
Testing the Advance Alerts = nothing
Basic Alerts are working
Test Alerts from Basic Alerts are working.
You shouldn't be able to test Basic alerts in the Advanced Alert Mgr.
Is the adv. alert enabled? Are you getting an hour glass when testing your advanced alert in the Advanced Alerts Manager?
yes its enabled.
No hour glass.
This came about when I wanted to test an alert. I set up the advance alert to simply monitor the Windows Print Spooler to one server. I've stopped and restarted the service many times and received no email alerts. It shows in the Events Monitor, but no email was sent.
Sometimes this service crashes & can be down for hours, days or weeks, until someone notices the alerts are broken.I installed Snare on my Orion server, which Syslogs to my Kiwi server when any Solarwinds service crashes.Kiwi then sends me an e-mail.Have a look in the Free Tools tab for the link to the Snare software.
