Alerting via SMS

Hi,

in case of an emergency I want to be alerted via SMS.

Notepager does not seem to respond to any requests or phonecalls at all so thats not an option.

What we are looking for is a solution that Orion would be able to alert directly to our mobile phones.

Does anyone know of a good solution? Some kind of system that Orion could use as email gateway but it would instead send out an SMS would be the perfect solution.

Hardware appliance or software with a modem attached to the server is both fine!

Most cell phone companies have an email to text bridge available to you. Here is a website that shows you the email address syntax to use for the different mobile providers.

However we want to have an SMS-gateway to be able to alert when the internet connection is down too

I'd say debug Notepager and then use that. We have several customers that are using this without issue. I didn't understand what you were saying about your install failing.

Hi,

I use notepager with NPM with no issues [with USB cell modem]. I prefer not to rely on SMTP serivces and NPM sends alerts directly from the system. In alert definition I used custom property which must have same value as notepager recipient to send over SMS. So you can send diversify alerts for many systems and recipients by custom property value.

Check first if you are able to send SMS directly from notepager then troubleshoot with NPM.

actually i never installed notepager as we dont even have a gsm modem yet. what i said is that their support is basically non existent...

my problem is that i need to be able to relay from the orion installation to another server as the orion server is in the datacenter where there is no cellphone reception...

it would be perfect if i could use notepager to relay the message to another notepager server which in turn would send out the sms...

I haven't used it personally - I talk about the product as part of the training on alerts, but to date I haven't had anyone who wanted it configured while I was on site. Customers have set it up at after I've left and I haven't heard any complaints about it being broken.

If I remember what I heard about its configuration, though, it involves writing alerts to a file which are then scooped up by Notepager and sent out. If that's the case, writing them to a share the remote system had visibility to ought to do the trick. It's a shame Notepager's support isn't more responsive - it'd be a quick thing for them to sort out.

I dont even know if Notepager would run on a 64bit Server 2008.

I wish sms functionality was included in Orion... we are looking at solutions, hardware and software which are over a grand...

A good solution I think would be if we would find something like an email gateway within our LAN that converts it to an sms
