Poller Time: Local or UTC?

I am curious how timestamps on poller data is done, is it using local time or UTC?

I need to know how the time stamps are done for both regular statistic data as well as statistic data collected using the UnDP.

The timestamps come from the standard NPM poller in local time not UTC.

Either I don't understand your answer or you don't understand my question, not sure which.

Since asking this I have done some more digging around. The time stamps on polled data seems to be in UTC for UnDP and APM data. Time stamps on polled data polled by NPM (CPU, response time, etc) seems to be in local time.

I want somebody from SolarWinds to validate the time stamp method used because it doesn't seem consistent.

I cannot verify this info, but if this is what you've found, I'm sure it has validity.

It strikes me as inconsistent, too. Perhaps it was a choice made as the product evolved, but I don't know for sure. I am marking this for dev and the PM to let them chime in.

You are correct in your findings.

The majority of the Orion NPM data is stored in local time. And that's the local time relative to the poller that's capturing the data.

UnDP data is stored in UTC. APM data is stored in UTC.

Why the discrepancy? As we were working on newer functionality and newer modules, we knew that storing the data in UTC was the better option. Unfortunately, we couldn't retro-fit the NPM portions to use UTC unless we decided to touch every single bit of data customers and covert it all.

Another tidbit, although the UnDP are stored as UTC in the CustomPoller... tables, SW appears to converted them to localtime on the GUI custom poller charts and when they're exported (as expected).
