Hi,
My current Solarwinds box is running on a 3Ghz 4Gb RAM DL380 and I've 3 options available using spare kit to migrate and wondered if they'd suffice.
It really boils down to where SQL is and how many elements you are going to monitor.
We have 4000 elements and the current SQL is on a separate box running 2005 and that's pretty beefy.

That's a pretty good number. I would think it best you had at least 8gb RAM and a single proc that's at least dual-core.
Also something the keep in mind is the perceived speed of the system doing anything on the interface will be most dependent on your SQL box. The load on the main box will deal with polling and job completion.
So faster SQL = better visible speed
Faster Main box = less chance of missed polls
I think some of the detail on my original post has been lost somehow. The 3 options I mentioned I have are as follows :-
2.53Ghz Quad corewith 6gb, 2.0Ghz Quad core with 8gb (both rack servers) and a Blade 2.1Ghz Quad core with 6gb.
From what you've mention we could get away with the 2nd option with a 64-bit OS. My only concern was dropping from a 3Ghz CPU but my thinking was the extra cores would balance that out.
Thanks for your help :-)
I agree with that, more cores would be better.
And you are welcome.
Also, I think GHz is not as important as model of the proc. I believe a P4 3.8GHz proc would get it's butt kicked by a I7 Lynnfield 2.53GHz proc.
