Changing from Telnet to SSH

In the Orion web interface, there is is a telnet icon/shortcut which is great, but is there anyway to change that to ssh?

I would love to see this. In some secure environments, like ours, Telnet is not allowed. So, a Telnet link does me no good whatsoever.

All it does it call the telnet URL function, which you can hack. If you open up regedit, go to My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\telnet\shell\open\command

You see the key where it calls
c:\program Files\Windows NT\hypertrm.exe /t %1

so for putty, it would be
<path to your Putty>\putty.exe -ssh %1

That doesn't work for me and I don't want a 'hack'. I still need telnet URL's to work for other things.

There really isn't an "SSH" URL identifier that I could find, as there is with telnet. As such, there isn't really an easy way to do this currently.

All the IANA schemes are here: www.iana.org/.../uri-schemes.html

The good news, is the URI scheme for SSH is in draft:
tools.ietf.org/.../draft-ietf-secsh-scp-sftp-ssh-uri-04.txt

Once that gets approved, then I expect most implementations of SSH software should be able to use the URL.

We use putty as both our telnet & ssh client in Orion.
See this post for more details on how to implement it:
This allows us to use a single line for either telnet or ssh according to what we have in the "access" field in Custom Property Editor.
Of course as per Greg's suggestion you can also use the right click custom Menu option to select your ssh program of choice.

I have asked for this feature for awhile now. Like Cirrus you should be able to define custom tools to use. You should be able to remove those icons, or add icons that can be used for SSH, etc.

has there been any progress from solarwinds on this? I dont like having to "hack" the registery or anything like that to be able to support SSH to my devices.

Our networking group has asked this same question numerous times. It kind of blows my mind that telnet would ever be used in any production network environment. Is there anything we need to do in order to get this escalated as a feature request? More often than not NPM is the first place we go when a device has issues. It would save a lot of time to be able to click a link that triggers an SSH client to connect to the device.
