lots of strange error events

what's this and how to solve this?

why are you porting this again? or was this a "old forum" re-import?

From the looks of this new screen shot, forgive me if I don't get the language set correctly, but it looks like the DB is set to use English, and the devices are named using an international or Chinese character set. This would explain the ????'s because the device/interface names can not be interpreted.

On the SQL server open the SQL Server Books Online and search for "Collation Options for International Support"; once you get the DB speaking the same language as the devices, then you should get rid of the locking issue and errors reported by the MainTaskDataReader. (hopefully)

and now they appeared again.

after upgrading orion to V8.1, another kinds of strange error events appeared.

On the SQL server open the SQL Server Books Online and search for "Collation Options for International Support"; once you get the DB speaking the same language as the devices, then you should get rid of the locking issue and errors reported by the MainTaskDataReader. (hopefully)

After upgrading to 8.1 have you reapplied the "Collation Options for International Support" steps as jtimes suggested?

I could not find search the "Collation Options for International Support" in the SQL Server Books Online.

In response to your issue:Error Opening MainTaskDataReader Timeout expired

If you go to C:\Program Files\SolarWinds\Orion> an look for SWNetPerfMon.DB. Open it (you might need to use notepad to open it) then scroll down to the bottom an edit the following:
Connection timeout in seconds
Timeout==20
Database Command timeout in seconds
CommandTimeout=90

Change the 20 to 40 change the 90 to 110. You can increase these if you like- however this is just a suggestion.

After I upgraded to 8.1, I have the same errors apearing 2 at the same time every hour. I have a case open with Support - 9272

I just boosted the SWNetPerfMon.DB Timeout settings, so I'll let you know in an hour or so...
