High CPU!

Hi All,

Our Orion server is constantly at 100% cpu, of course its mainly netperfmonservice, but the SWJobEnginerWorker.exe and the Solarwinds.BusinessLayerHost.exe are smashing the cpu as well.

I have read a couple of posts on this but just wondering what was the actual fix in the end.

Some have said to reinstall the JobEngine?

Should the netperfmonservice be running so high?

I am running NPM 9.5 SP3, on server 2003 SP2, SQL Server 2005 SP1, and NTA 3.5 SP1

I have had the same problem, the soulution is to move the SQL to a separate server.

I would recommend going to SP4 of 9.5 as well and breaking SQL off box. How many elements are you managing and how many flows from Netflow?

SQL box is already separate.

Flows from netflow, I'm not sure. It says 179 interfaces

I have had this issue more than once and each time I got with support and each time it was errors in the program here or there. My suggestion would be to get with support and let them dig into your system, after this was done for me it solved issue for awhile.

What are the specs on the boxes?

Orion VM box -

Server 2003 sp2, Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU 5160 @ 3.00GHz, 2gb RAM

SQL Box -

Server 2008 sp1, IBM eServer BladeCenter HS21, Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5450 @ 3.00GHz, 16gb RAM

I think there could be a couple of issues affecting this.

The logs on SQL box for netperfmon are 97GB!, It filled up the partition.

Database usage for netperfmon is 36.5 GB

So now we notice gaps in our data.

I have the DBA's looking at it, but they are taking their time.

It's difficult to troubleshoot this any further here without diagnostics. Please open a support ticket on this issue and include a link to this thread.

If it's NetFlow that is causing the DB performance issues, there's several performance tuning options we can enable to help (e.g. dynamic DNS, 95% setting).

We now have netflow under control, But its the Job Engine Worker Service thats smashing the box's CPU

In order to receive technical support, you will need to be current on your SolarWinds maintenance. Complete the form. You will not be able to upload your Orion diagnostics, but you will receive an email back that allows you to upload diagnostics.
