Hi Solarwinds Community,
1. Are Avaya/Nortel switches supported for NCM? and how to accomplish these task? Can you provide me with the step-by-step guidelines since Im a first time supporting Solarwinds NCM.
Thanks.
Hi acgarcia--
The NCM Admin Guide should help. Specifically, Chapter 1 and 5.
Hope this helps,DH
Thanks Danielle for the response and I have gone through the Admin Guide(but maybe I missed the part) but Im a bit confused as to how would NCM be able to backup configurations as well as upload any configurations changes created on the console to the devices. Is enabling snmp on the nortel devices enough to do all these? Will NCM be able to detect config changes by just enabling snmp on the devices?
Thanks and more power.
What I mean by the above post is that, do I need to enable my nortel devices to send syslog to my ncm for the ncm to notice config changes made on the switches or snmp is enough for this?
Thanks
I've marked this for the PM to further address your questions.
Thank you!DH
Thank you for your time DH, I need NCM to monitor any changes on nortel distribution and access switches. We dont use cisco switches in the production area only cisco asa for the firewall.
I hope I get a respond soon. I was hoping enabling snmp on those nortel devices would do the trick.
We are using NCM to backup Nortel Baystack 350's, BPS2000's, ERS4500's, ERS5510's and Passport 8600's.
We have SNMP enabled on the target devices, but I believe NCM in the background is doing a telnet and a 'copy-running-config' command to the NCM acting as a TFTP Server.
Then once you have a couple configs backed up from the same switch it is just doing a config diff to alert you of config changes. Basically it compares the 2 text files and notes what is different.
Hi Craig,
We have 2500, 4500 and 5510s on our production. And we have done installing NCM as well as discovered those devices into the software but as I tried to back-up the configs using NCM there was an error before finishing the download, it simply could not back-up the configs. What could be the problem? Again, snmp strings were defined on the switches. Could there be other steps I failed to do?
Do you mind if I asked for your email so I can send to you a sample config on the switch with snmp strings defined but were not discovered by Solarwinds NPM via snmp but only thru ICMP. Better yet a technical engineer to help me with the trial period?
