quote:1) Be able to add/edit/delete networks from browser 2) List all IPs in a network, not just ones that respond. That way IPs that are out there buy not reachable would still be listed. 3)Be able to set networks or even individual IPs to not be scanned or skipped. Again useful for IPs that are used, but not necessarily reachable. IE external IPs or DMZ IPs that I know are used but I don't need them pinged to see if they are live. 4) IPs stored with three 0s for each octet to allow proper ascending/descending sorting. 5) A couple custom text fields that a customer could label to their needs and use. IE I would like to not only have comments, but another field that I could add in where/how a server is backed up. 6) Search function as we have implemented. 7) Able to use SQL DB instead of access or MSDE for performance.

You have to remember I'm doing this when I have the time to do it.
As I'm in the office now until January, it'll probably be a few weeks until I even look at it again.

Just wondering if this is still in development or is it a dead project? Was really looking forward to this.
Thanks
Seeing as the whole top section of the web interface has changed in 8.1 I need to figure out how to include new module options again........
As I've said before, I'm doing this when I get time....... Which at the moment isn't that often due to an increased workload
As with everyone else, I am very interested in this too. I am already publishing the ip scheme to a page and have a link from the home page to it, as well as many other items, and would love to put this stuff on tabs.
Thanks for the update. I was just curious as I did not see any postings in 6 months.
I have a responsibility for a large health care network and I am using the IP Address Management tool to help all techs with identifying where and how the addressess and subnets are managed across the enteprise.
My enterprise has approx 1700 subnets. The first time I used the IP Address Management tool the list of addresses was way to large to manage effectively. The steps below are my procedure for managing this task...
1. Since I have about 14 techs, all of them have the SolarWinds engineers toolset, I decided to create a shared location for the database that was created with the tool. In this shared location I created 9 different folders (directories) each folder was intended to hold a seperate database for each large subnet area of the enterprise.
2. I then created the IP Address Management database with a name specific to that organization.
3. After that I created a folder with subfolders (the subfolders matched the names of the database folders) in the Orion NetPerfMon folder (directory).
4. The next step was to was to select the <file> menu item the <publish all subnets to the web> this will prompt you for the correct folder to publish to. Just navigate the tree until you see the subfolder that you created in the previous step. one of the published pages will be a default.htm page which will be the index for all other pages.
5. Next using the admin priviliges in Orion select customize view and create a new view.
6. In this view all you need to do is add a user defined link from the miscellanous menue list. Then edit that resource and add the link for each default.html page that was created. If you used the same directory I did all that is necessary is \NetPerf\Mon\<dir name>\<dir name>\default.html.
7. What I did to give users access to that was I created a new Menu item called IP Management and used a custom menu item to link to the new view.
What you are left with is a nice page in Orion that will display all of the subnets in your organization by major subnet size, affiliate or geographical location.
Updating these list is easy. Since all of the idb files are in a shared location I simply tasked each tech to go out periodically and update the list with a new scan. Once the scan is complete they just need to select publish to the web. The one thing here is that the correct folder will have to be chosen.
I have also found that I can run multiple instances of the IP Address Management tool and update 2 or 3 databases at the same time. The gotcha her is that one you open a database that becomes you default database for each successive instance started. Just close that and open the next and you should be fine.
Thanks for the detailed information. I would like to add another variation to this. Instead of making another view I went into "Customize Menu Bar" and then for the a particular menus bar I then went "edit" and then "add custom menu item" from there I added a name and then the URL to the default.htm file.
Works pretty good. Just takes awhile to scan all the networks to create the data if you have a lot of subnets.
I had trouble going the view way it wouldn't display the default.htm page from within the program. If I manually pasted it in the browser it worked fine. The page was just blank.
There is some really great dialogue in this thread about IP Address Management (IPAM) requirements, so thanks for that! Based on your feedback, we're seriously evaluating the IP address management (IPAM) again and we need your assistance in teasing apart "nice to have" versus "must have" capabilities in this market.
