Why, I use a remote server?
We saw the same thing and killed the install. Looks like the setup routine is ignoring the current config and laying down sql 2005. The RCs didn't do that.
John
I get the same thing when I use a remote SQL server, have they issued an update, or is it something that you can stop when using custom install?
Good job I took a snapshot of my VM 1st.
At this point we (my company) have not opened a ticket and no one has responded to this thread from SolarWinds.
So unless one of you two opened a ticket, they probably are not working on the problem. I may have time tomorrow to give them a call.
I re-ran the upgrade after I reverted my Virtual Server back to a snapshot and this time ran the custom install. It gave you the option of installing SQL or not - so note to self for next upgrade, always run the custom install.
At some point, the GA 6.1 zip file did contain SQL Express binaries.
The installer logic is to use it if it's there, which created this confusing situation.
This was not intended and the new zip file does not have the SQL Express binaries. The behavior is now back to normal.
Sorry about any inconvenience or confusion.
Can you tell us what SQL bits we should see under Add / Remote programs on the Orion server when Orion is installed on a dedicated server and sql is installed on another dedicated server?
I ask because the admin who did to NCM 6.1 install started down the path of the SQL express install unknowingly. We'd like to remove the SQL bits not needed (if any got installed) if possible.
The orion box is Win2k8 R2.
